Narcolepsy is not known to be caused by any vitamin deficiency. Its primary cause is usually an autoimmune loss of hypocretin (orexin)-producing neurons in the brain. However, certain vitamin deficiencies especially vitamin B12, vitamin D, and sometimes iron can contribute to daytime fatigue, which may be mistaken for sleep-wake disorders, but they do not cause true narcolepsy.
Treatment for narcolepsy typically focuses on regulating sleep cycles and promoting wakefulness. Some patients use medications such as Artvigil 150, a formulation of armodafinil, to help maintain daytime alertness
